LIFE IN 2020: A COVID-19 POEM

Routines are rioting.

Feelings are fighting.

Beautiful vast world to explore.

And now we are hiding.

May we never again take things for granted,

Perhaps, social distancing is a reality check we wanted.

When we feel too worried by this break,

May we remember all those lives at stake.

Those who have the luxury of working from home,

Remember the people in hospital beds hoping to get back home.

When you feel trapped inside your own home,

Think about those who don’t have a safe place to call home.

Economy is down & that’s a bad news.

But, so is the pollution in air & that’s a great news.

When you feel that the strength of fear is too much too bear,

Rejoice by the power of love & our minds would be calm, composed & clear.

Now since you can’t physically wrap your arms around people,

Embrace them with emotional support, and allow your compassion bloom to triple.

When you feel too tired of YouTube, Netflix & Prime,

Think about all those with no access to internet & still finding a reason to smile.

Wash…wash your hands, wear your masks & cough into your elbow.

Stay home, stay safe, stay hydrated & wait a little more for Corona to go.

A foot in the near future,

With an ear to the past.

Home & hope will keep you better-

Recovery is a process, never haste.

Do not reach out your hands.

Reach out your heart.

Armed with answers of the past,

Together, we’d create a better start.

Pour a few drops of love

In the backdrop of destruction.

Love shall lead you to the staircase…. Staircase to reconstruction.

And you will heal. And so will the long prevailing ignorance & heartlessness.

And you will heal. And….the earth is already healing.

I love the thoughts in this and only hope that we actually do learn from this and that we stop being so cruel and selfish and learn to truly cherish life, ours as well as others.

    1. Definitely. Like you mentioned, the purpose of this specific poetic composition is the same – to make people more aware about their responsibilities & instill a sense of compassion amongst human beings towards each other.
